POLICE ADMIT they have been left “frustrated” following a recent clampdown on speeding in a Fife village.
A total of 18 drivers have been reported to the procurator fiscal, with a further 66 warned about their speed following the recent campaign in Thornton.
Concerned by the number of motorists who seem unaware of the dangers of speeding in populated areas, the community constable for Thornton and Heatherywood told The Courier that dangerous behaviour behind the wheel would not be tolerated.
PC Jim Harvey said: “It is very frustrating to see the number of motorists who continue to drive at excessive speed on our roads, despite repeated warnings.
“There is still a hard core of motorists who put themselves and the lives of others at risk by driving at speed.
“The links between excessive speed and collisions causing death or serious injury are clear. Speeding is dangerous, costly and unacceptable.
“The results from the campaign highlight the need for police to continue our focus on irresponsible drivers, to make sure speed limits are acknowledged and the roads are made safer for people in the area.”
Action was taken after speed strips on Strathore Road and Station Road confirmed large numbers of motorists failing to abide by the 20mph limit.
PC Harvey added that a dedicated speed watch team volunteers from the community who will conduct speed checks using handheld radar guns will be in place in the near future.
