There was jobs joy in Fife last night as one of the region’s largest employers took on more permanent staff.
Amazon confirmed that 300 temporary workers would be given permanent roles at its Dunfermline distribution centre, taking the number of staff there to more than 640.
The company says plans are afoot to bolster staff numbers further, with more than 100 posts expected to be created in the near future.
Catherine McDermott, Amazon director of operations, said: “We’re delighted that so many of our top-performing temporary associates have now joined us on a permanent basis.
“Amazon has invested over £1bn in its UK operations, including our fulfilment centre in Dunfermline where hundreds of employees focus every day on providing an exceptional experience for our customers all over the UK, Europe and the world.”
The one million sq ft centre was opened in late 2011 but only last month the company was on the receiving end of stinging criticism after failing to appoint more permanent staff.
Amazon said then that it was committed to appointing more permanent staff.
