NHS Fife has offered its deepest sympathies to a grieving family who claim their relative was not adequately cared for in hospital.
Relatives of Alan Watt (38) contacted The Courier with complaints about the treatment he received at a ward in Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, before his death earlier this month.
Mr Watt died from heart valve failure after more than 13 weeks in hospital.
His sister Pamela Rowley (46) said Mr Watt was badly dehydrated, had bed sores, was not encouraged to eat and was poorly treated by staff. The complaints related to one ward and the family said he had been well looked after at other units.
George Cunningham, director of acute services at NHS Fife, said: “I would like to convey my deepest sympathies to the family for their loss. I can confirm that Mr Watt’s family has not been in touch, so I urge them to come forward to contact me or our patient relations department to enable us to investigate their concerns further.”
