A skiff test Fife rowing club eyes first world title

A FIFE community initiative that led the way in reviving traditional boat-building skills and skiff racing in Scotland has a world title in its sights.
St Ayles Rowing Club was the first club established under the auspices of the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association.
Last year the Anstruther club raced two traditionally-built wooden skiffs around Scotland and Ireland, netting an impressive haul of trophies and medals.
This summer, crews hope to improve on that at the first Skiffs World Championship in Ullapool, Wester Ross, in July.
Club spokesperson Shona Muirhead said: “Skiff rowing is a great way to meet new people and get in shape.
“The Scottish Coastal Rowing Project has taken off at an amazing rate.
“Crews from as far afield as Tasmania and North America are expected to take part in the world championships this year,” she added.
