Nine blocks of eyesore Abbeyview flats may disappear this summer.
Fife Council has applied for permission to demolish the flats in Islay Road and Allan Crescent to make way for affordable housing.
All the flats, from 17-79 Islay Road and from 20-90 Allan Crescent, are vacant and their tenants have been rehoused.
David Robertson, team leader in housing and legal services, said it was hoped the demolition work could start in the summer.
It is thought affordable housing could be built on the site, probably around 24 units, under the regeneration scheme to put in place a better and newer mix of more appropriate housing, he added.
