A man has been arrested in connection with the death of another man in the seaside town of Burntisland.
The 27-year-old man’s body was found at a flat in Abbot’s View on Saturday night.
A Fife police spokesman said that a 26-year-old man had been arrested and is expected to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court today.
The dead man was named as Barry McLean.
There was a significant police presence in the town following the death, and anyone who was in the area between 10pm and 11pm on Saturday night has been urged to contact Fife Constabulary.
The property on Abbots View was cordoned off on Sunday as detectives undertook inquiries.
News of the death quickly spread through the picturesque town on Sunday, leaving many people deeply shocked.
Burntisland, Kinghorn and Western Kirkcaldy councillor Ron Edwards described news of the death as “surprising.” However, he urged local people not to panic.
Mr Edwards said, “I believe inquiries are at a very early stage but there is no reason to suggest that people in the wider community have anything to worry about.
“Obviously, it is not the kind of thing you hear of in a place like Burntisland very often but I suppose it just goes to show that these types of incidents can, very occasionally, happen just about anywhere.”
Mr Edwards backed the police for information, urging any witnesses to get in touch with the authorities.
Locals spoke of their shock following the death. One near neighbour said, “There was quite a lot of police activity so it was clear something pretty serious had happened. It is normally fairly quiet round here so a suspicious death is absolutely shocking.”
