Dunfermline’s twinning links with the Spanish town of Logrono have been rekindled.
Councillor Joe Rosiejak, the chairman of the City of Dunfermline area committee, welcomed Eva Galilea Garcia and Marta Saenz Garcia to Dunfermline at the City Chambers.
The two students from the northern Spanish town arrived in Scotland for an eight-week exchange visit to Dunfermline as part of the newly rekindled town twinning arrangements.
Eva and Marta will be based at Tower House Community Centre in Dunfermline and will be working with staff from the community learning and development team.
They will be taking part in a range of cultural and educational activities including working with young people in the Dunfermline Youth Forum to prepare them for a return visit to Logrono next year.
They will also have a weekly input at Dunfermline High School with pupils in third and fourth year Spanish classes.
Mr Rosiejak said, “We’re delighted to welcome Eva and Marta to Dunfermline and we’re sure they will enjoy their time here.
“It will not only be a great experience for them but we fully expect the young people of Dunfermline to benefit from working closely with the two students.”
The twinning arrangement between the two towns dates from 1990 but has been less active in recent years.
However, the younger generation have led the way in strengthening ties again and a student placement visit last year paved the way.
