Pupil from Lochgelly High School in Fife are to play for the Pope during his visit to Scotland later this year.
They will form part of a massed pipe band that will march through the centre of Edinburgh during the Papal visit.
Rector Campbell Wood told The Courier it was a huge honour for the school and testament to the long tradition of pipe music in the area.
“There are going to be a number of different pipe bands involving young people,” Mr Wood said.
“They will play in a massed pipe band that will be walking down Princes Street the day the Pope visits Edinburgh.
“It’s a privilege for the school and privilege for the pupils to be involved.”
Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown heard all about the pipe band’s involvement as he visited the school shortly before the summer break and was treated to a performance by the band.
The MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath said, “It is great to come here and see what I can only describe as the amazing work that is going on within the school.”
Dunfermline Athletic FC director of football Jim Leishman joined Mr Brown during his visit.
He added, “The activities going on in this school are just great.”
Mr Leishman, a local lad, said, “I felt so proud of all the pupils and want to wish them the very best for their futures.”
The high school has two bands, a novice one and a senior band, and involves about 50 people.
The senior band is involved in playing at local galas and highland games most weekends during the summer.
