Two men are lucky to be alive after their catamaran struck rocks and began sinking in the Firth of Forth.
The men, aged 68 and 69, put out a mayday distress message on Thursday, sparking a rescue operation.
A spokesman for Forth Coastguard at Fife Ness, which co-ordinated the rescue, said the call came in from the Granton-registered Tubula Rasa just after 9am.
The 12-metre catamaran was returning to Granton from Anstruther when it hit rocks south of Inchkeith Island, sustaining serious damage to the port hull.
Kinghorn inshore lifeboat, local boat the Nicola S and the Forth and Tay Navigation Service pilot boat The Tiger responded.
The inshore lifeboat and The Tiger, from Leith, arrived around the same time.
The men on the catamaran, from Edinburgh and Granton, were transferred to The Tiger and the vessel was towed to Granton by the lifeboat.
Lifeboat helmsman Keith Hay said: ”When we arrived the vessel was taking on a lot of water and the two casualties were preparing to abandon the catamaran.
”They had a dinghy with them. However, the pump to inflate it was out of reach in the part of the boat under water.
”Fortunately we were able to arrive soon after their distress call before they had to enter the water.”
