Plans have been lodged to transform Dunfermline’s derelict fire station into a Mexican restaurant.
A businessman from Bury hopes to breathe new life into the building on Carnegie Drive.
The art deco structure has lain empty for over the two years since the town’s new fire station opened at Pitreavie.
The listed building was put on the market but a sale proved difficult due to its protected status.
Plans to convert it into a pub and nightclub as part of a £20 million development were ditched and interest from a local group to turn it into a major centre for the arts came to nothing.
Some concern has been expressed about the restaurant proposal, with fears it could exacerbate an existing car parking problem.
The fire station closed in early 2010, along with Rosyth fire station, when the new facility serving both communities opened.
The Rosyth site has since been transformed into a training centre for Carnegie College.
