Fife binmen will start working evening shifts next week.
From next Monday, refuse collections will take place between 6am and 9pm in a move that will save Fife Council an estimated £800,000.
Some workers threatened to strike over the changes.
Unite was set to ballot its members on industrial action, but there has since been silence from the union over the row.
The Courier made repeated attempts to contact Unite but was unsuccessful.
Trade union Unison initially rejected the proposals but later accepted them.
When The Courier spoke to Unite last month, it still rejected the new working arrangements. It was seeking a settlement where binmen would work seven days over a 14-day period.
The council said every household in Fife had now received information through their doors detailing the changes to bin collections.
Environmental strategy officer Lesley Sugden said: ”Every household in Fife has now received an information leaflet about the changes, and a bin collection calendar explaining what your new bin collection day will be.
”You’ll also see a reminder note on your bin when it’s emptied this week asking you to check your new bin calendar as the day and time we empty your bin may have changed.
”This new longer working day was agreed following a review of household waste collection services earlier this year.
”Households will receive the same number of bin collections as they do currently and businesses will continue to have their waste collected seven days a week.
”However, by making full use of our bin lorries we can cut down on the number of lorries we need, and save over £800,000 of public money while preserving jobs.
”Over the next few days before the new system starts, remember to check what your new collection day is, put your bins out by 6am and leave unemptied bins out until 9pm.
”You can check your new bin day and download your new bin calendar at www.fifedirect.org.uk/binchanges, or call the recycling helpline on 08451 550 022.”
