Communities near Mossmorran warned of flaring at Fife Ethylene Plant
ByNews reporter
The public are being warned about possible flaring from Mossmorran throughout this week, as Fife Ethylene Plant starts up again.
The ExxonMobil Chemical plant’s start-up, following its annual closure for routine maintenance, had to be delayed when a leak was discovered.
The firm said there was no risk to the workforce, the community or environment, but a large part of the plant had to be shut down to carry out repairs.
Flaring was seen on Monday evening and is expected to continue this week.
The firm said it will be routed through the ground flare system where possible to make it less noticeable.
The company apologised if the work would cause any inconvenience or concern to the plant’s neighbours.
”The flare is an essential part of the plant’s safety systems and at no time will there be any danger to local communities or the workforce.
”We would like to assure you it is our aim to keep flaring to a minimum,” a spokesman said.
