A young man from Clackmannanshire died following a crash in Dunfermline on Sunday night.
The accident happened at 9.48pm on Halbeath Road, the main road into Dunfermline from the east.
It involved a collision between a BMW which was heading into Dunfermline, and a Land Rover coming the other way.
The driver of the BMW, who was in his early 20s, died.
The driver of the Land Rover escaped with relatively minor injuries in the accident, which happened at the roundabout near Asda.
The busy road links the centre of the town with the M90 motorway through west Fife.
Police sealed off the scene and diversions were in place for some time.
Inspector Brenda Sinclair appealed for witnesses to call police on 01592 251111.
She said, “Crash investigators are currently piecing together the circumstances surrounding an incident whereby the driver of a white BMW motor car was fatally injured after it collided with a Land Rover motor car.
“In an effort to assist our investigations, I would ask that anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.”
A Fife Constabulary spokesman confirmed the dead man had yet to be formally identified.
He said, “Further details, when known, will be released at a later stage.”
