Fife Council has approved a plan which sets out steps to be taken to regenerate Cowdenbeath over the next 10 years.
The plan will ensure that Cowdenbeath is economically diverse by 2020, with a vibrant town centre and a growing population.
Alison Brown, lead officer with the council’s town centres and regeneration team, said, “The plan is ambitious but achievable if the relevant partners contribute strongly to make it happen.”
The council feels the area has a number of significant opportunities which could contribute towards the vision.
In the short term the challenge is to stimulate local entrepreneurship by maximising the take-up of business and enterprise support.
In the longer term, areas which have been earmarked as having opportunities to increase tourism include Lochore Meadows and the Fife Earth Project at St Ninians, as well as developing a significant green business park at Westfield.
The council’s development services has committed £15,000 to implement some of the short-term actions. However, other funding still needs to be identified.
A number of internal and external stakeholders contributed to the action plan process.
Following on from this, a workshop was held at Lochore Meadows in March to which all stakeholders were invited to discuss and agree the vision for the area.
