A three-year-old boy was seriously injured by a car on a Kirkcaldy road on Friday.
The tot is believed to have been on his way to Torbain Nursery when the accident occurred just before 9am.
He was rushed to the town’s Victoria Hospital with a suspected fractured skull and damaged liver.
Last night police said his condition was stable but he was going to be transferred to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, in Edinburgh.
It is understood the youngster landed on the bonnet of the Toyota Verso and rolled off.
The incident happened in Lindores Drive, just off Chapel Level. It is the second serious road accident in the town in three days.
Two women died in an accident with a Land Rover on Dunnikier Way on Tuesday evening.
A spokesman for Fife Constabulary said: “Police were called to Lindores Drive about 9am in relation to a three-year-old having been knocked down by a car.
“He was seriously injured and taken by ambulance to Victoria Hospital. The road was closed for some time while investigations took place.”
No one has been charged in connection with the incident.
