Ex-Seahorses star Chris Helme to play Montrose Music Festival
ByThe Courier Reporter
Ex-Seahorses singer Chris Helme will perform at next month’s Montrose Music Festival.
It is another coup for the organisers ahead of the sell-out performance by rock legends Status Quo which will open MoFest.
The committee has now announced a host of other acts that will play during the May 23-25 weekend including Helme’s solo shows.
Helme was discovered busking. He was asked to make a demo tape which was passed on to John Squire who was forming a new band following the demise of The Stone Roses.
Squire then went to see Helme perform and invited him to join his new band, The Seahorses, for which he had already recruited bassist Stuart Fletcher.
The Seahorses released their debut album Do It Yourself in 1997. The album produced three hit singles: Love is the Law, Blinded by the Sun and Love Me and Leave Me.
The stand-alone single You Can Talk to Me, co-written by Squire and Helme, also peaked at number 15.
