The train due at platform one probably did not arrive bang on time for anyone making the trip from Glasgow to Arbroath in recent weeks.
New data shows that between August and September just 5.2% of trains on one scheduled service from the city to the Angus town hit a rail performance benchmark.
The figure made the 16.11 Glasgow Queen Street to Arbroath Monday to Saturday service the worst in Scotland between August 23 and September 19, while Carnoustie was also well down the league at under 30%.
Rail chiefs say the spell is well below the usual Arbroath average, but have admitted there are timetabling issues and they hope those will be resolved by the end of the year.
The disappointing Arbroath figure emerged as part of the regular publication of On Time data, released by the ScotRail Alliance to show how many trains arrive within 59 seconds of schedule.
Since April, On Time figures have been available on ScotRail’s website and at the termination station of all services.
On Time is above and beyond the industry standard Public Performance Measure (PPM), which measures trains arriving within five minutes of schedule.
The 5.2% On Time figure related to the single train per day that currently terminates at Arbroath from Monday to Saturday the 16:11 Glasgow Queen Street service to the Angus burgh.
ScotRail stressed that during the last four months, the train has a PPM score of about 80% but said steps are being taken to improve the Glasgow service’s success rate.
A ScotRail Alliance spokesman said: “We are committed to running an On Time railway and transforming rail travel in Scotland.
“We have identified timetable issues that are impacting upon the performance of our 16:11 Glasgow Queen Street to Arbroath service.
“Our train planners are working hard to fix these in our improved national timetable from Sunday December 13.”
Arbroath councillor David Fairweather said: “Having been a commuter on this line a number of years ago, I cannot recall many issues of trains running late.
“For ScotRail to say they have identified issues is simply not acceptable and on behalf of suffering passengers I urge them to work and rectify the current situation as speedily as possible.”
