Work on an £80,000 upgrade to an Angus leisure centre is to begin this week.
Angus Council is spending the significant sum on the gym at the Saltire Centre in Arbroath.
New equipment, flooring and redecoration work will be included at a cost of £70,000, with a further £10,000 going on the likes of trampolines, a bouncy castle and a music system.
The investment is part of the council’s leisure services equipment replacement programme, which aims to renew facilities across the county.
Built in 1992, the centre already contains a modern, outdoor multi-activity area and offers a range of activities such as five-a-side football, cricket, children’s play schemes and martial arts.
Other facilities include a games hall boasting six badminton courts, multi-purpose areas, meeting rooms and a well-equipped fitness suite. Visitors can also use the health suite which has a sauna, steam room and spa.
Fitness suite two will be closed from today until the start of September as works on the centre progress. The other gym area will continue to be available, with the exception of 2pm to 3pm on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Due to spaces being limited, customers are advised to book in advance to be guaranteed a place.
