An accident involving a baby on a notorious stretch of road has prompted yet another plea for action.
The car the child was travelling in was struck by a lorry on the A92 at Freuchie.
Neither the baby, the two adults in the car nor the driver of the truck were hurt, but they were badly shaken by the incident on Thursday afternoon.
Councillor David MacDiarmid, who witnessed the horrifying smash, said he feared the youngster, strapped into an infant seat in the front passenger seat, was going to be hurt.
The accident at the Bridgend Garden Centre junction, where Fife Council and local people want a roundabout created, stoked his anger at what he said was a lack of action to improve safety on the stretch regarded as an accident blackspot.
The Howe of Fife and Tay Coast councillor, who lives in nearby Falkland, said: “Incidents like this are happening on almost a daily basis.
“There are bumps, scrapes and near misses that aren’t in the statistics because they aren’t reported to police.
“We need a roundabout or someone else is going to be killed there, and it’s going to happen soon.”
Mr MacDiarmid saw the incident, which occurred about 1.40pm, unfold and said: “I saw the shock on their faces.
“There was a baby in the car. Thankfully everyone was OK but it could have been so much worse.”
He said there was chaos as traffic ground to a halt and he helped push the car on to the grass verge.
A roundabout at the junction is one of the proposals made to Transport Scotland by Fife Council in an action plan for the A92 submitted last August.
Transport Scotland insists it is listening to concerns and addressing them.
Earlier this month a spokesman said recommendations from a pedestrian accessibility study at Freuchie, a package of signing and lining improvements, were being implemented.
