Extra police from across Central Scotland and Tayside were called in today to assist Fife officers with their search for missing Newport woman Susan Reid.
Police Scotland’s Fife Division enlisted the help of officers from Alloa and Dundee in a bid to track down 56-year-old Mrs Reid, who has not been seen or heard from since Tuesday, January 21.
Specialist marine support officers were also called in today as the search intensified in and around the Newport area, with air support from the Police Scotland helicopter possible again on Thursday.
Despite significant efforts in recent days to trace of Mrs Reid, a librarian who works for Dundee University, officers have been unable to locate her.
A police spokeswoman confirmed that Mrs Reid has not attempted to use her bank cards or mobile phone since disappearing from her home.
Specialist officers have also been deployed to investigate areas around Mrs Reid’s home.
According to family members, Mrs Reid was last in touch on the evening of January 21.
Having been missing for more than a week, police say concern is growing.
Officers cited the librarian’s failure to access her bank cards or mobile in particular as adding a sense of urgency to the search.
“There is nothing to suggest that Susan is using any of her personal belongings and that obviously increases the concern around Susan’s welfare,” Chief Inspector Adrian Annandale said.
“At this stage there is nothing new to report in our inquiries. Obviously, if anyone else has seen Susan in or around Newport on that date we would ask them to contact us.”
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
