The first of two massive 89-tonne transformers needed for the £600m Beauly to Denny powerline made its way through Perthshire. Both electrical transformers were constructed in Porto, Portugal, and are destined for a new substation in Braco. The Beauly to Denny power line will carry renewable energy generated in the Highlands to central Scotland via 600 newly-built towers. The transformers had been taken to Scotland from their previous location in Bristol docks. Due to their weight a specialist haulier has been employed to ensure the safe delivery of the units. A private escort was accompanied the transformer as it made its way up to Braco along part of the A9 and the A822. Picture by Phil Hannah
