Rescue crews have told how they hauled a man to safety from a treacherous stretch of the Tay in Perth.
It is understood he entered the water near the Tay Street viewing platform and quickly got into difficulty as the tranquil-looking waters were anything but.
Police were contacted as the drama unfolded at around 8pm on Wednesday and called Tayside Fire and Rescue.
Three fire engines with water rescue crews went to the scene, joined by crews from Dundee, coastguard and an ambulance.
Rescue teams quickly established contact with the man, described as being “in a distressed state.”
Jet skiers assisted in reaching the man, who was pulled to safety and taken to Perth Royal Infirmary.
Graham Smart, station manager with Tayside Fire and Rescue, said, “I would like to thank all the emergency services and the jet skiers for their combined efforts in rescuing the casualty from the water.”
He also stressed the potential dangers of local rivers and lochs even in the most benign conditions.
“Tayside Fire and Rescue have gone to 18 water rescue incidents in the last 12 months,” he said.
“In some cases they tragically resulted in people drowning.
“While we do not wish to discourage people from enjoying the countryside, warm and dry weather does increase the potential for these types of incidents.
“It is important the public is aware of the potential hazards and take appropriate safety precautions to prevent accidents like this from occurring.
“Alcohol plays a major part in the drowning of adults,” he added.
“Drinking should be avoided at all costs if you intend to participate in water activities.”
