Wrong-way driver caused crash at Broxden Roundabout slip road
ByGraham Gibson
A 64-year-old Rattray man collided head on with another car after driving the wrong way down a Perth slip road.
Denis Bednarek drove into the oncoming vehicle as he mistakenly tried to drive from Crieff Road on to the A9 Western Bypass.
Bednarek told police he had made the error because the “lines were not prominent” and he “thought it was a two-lane road leading to a roundabout”.
At Perth Sheriff Court, depute fiscal Lisa Marshall said: “The incident took place at 3.15pm. The complainer, Kieran Murdoch, had just left the local Tesco store and was travelling along Crieff Road.
“He took the slip road on to the bypass at Broxden roundabout.
“He was travelling along the slip road and was confronted by the accused travelling south in the northbound lane. Mr Murdoch suffered a cut to his left hand and arm.”
Bednarek, of Larchbank Cottage, Mount Ericht Road, admitted that on May 27 on Crieff Road, Perth, slip road to A9 Western Bypass, he drove a car on the opposing carriageway and collided head on with a car driven by Kieran Murdoch.
Sheriff Fiona Tait fined him £450 and endorsed his licence with six penalty points.
