Man walks free after ex-partner admits threat claims were false

A Perth man accused of threatening his ex-girlfriend walked free from court after she admitted she had made up the allegations against him during a “mental breakdown”.
Scott Leaver went on trial at Perth Sheriff Court, accused of shouting and swearing at former partner Cassy Stewart and threatening her with violence in Blairgowrie last September.
After less than 10 minutes of evidence, fiscal Stuart Richardson confirmed the court was no longer pursuing action against 27-year-old Mr Leaver, of South William Street, after it emerged he had actually been trying to help his former girlfriend.
Speaking from the witness stand, Miss Stewart, 23, told the court she had been on a night out with a friend after the break-up.
She saw Mr Leaver as she walked home.
“He was just trying to talk to me,” she said.
“I had just got out of hospital after a serious operation and he was concerned about my health.”
Miss Stewart added that, if she was being “brutally honest”, she had phoned the police and reported her ex-boyfriend because she was having a “mental breakdown” triggered by extensive surgery she had undergone two weeks earlier.
