A Yes voter attacked his female host and left her home spattered in blood after flying into a rage during an argument about the independence referendum.
Ross Ramsay punched holes in walls and doors and was left bleeding after lashing out during the post-result party at the home of his friend, Kerrie Mathews.
Perth Sheriff Court was told that Ramsay had become violent when the result of the vote came up for discussion.
Sheriff Simon Collins fined him £400 and said: “The referendum raised strong emotions but there is absolutely no excuse for the conduct to which you have pled guilty.”
Ground worker Ramsay, 32, of Fortingall Place, Perth, admitted wilfully or recklessly damaging property at the house in Strathtay Road, Perth, on September 20.
He also admitted assaulting Ms Mathews, grabbing her by the shoulders and then pinning her to the floor.
Depute fiscal Lisa Marshall said: “As was the case in many households across the country at the time, the referendum was on everyone’s lips and, in this particular household, that became rather heated.”
Defence solicitor Paul Ralph, defending, said: “He (Ramsay) is remorseful about his behaviour. He had too much vodka and has very little memory of what happened.
“He has lost a friendship as a result.”
