Film-maker and author Matt Dickinson told Perth Academy pupils how he had drawn on his own experiences for his latest book, The Everest Files.
Mr Dickinson climbed Everest’s perilous north face in 1996 which, he explained, stood him in good stead when he came to write the adventure story set in the Himalayas.
He told the S2 pupils about his book’s fictional expedition, which ends in lies, betrayal, mysterious disappearances and death.
His thriller revolves around 18-year-old Ryan, who is on a gap year adventure and is working for a medical charity in Nepal.
Ryan sets out to solve the mystery of what happened to a teenager who never came back from Everest.
As a result, he makes a solo journey that takes him deep into the mountains.
Mr Dickinson discussed with the youngsters how his own experiences have proved helpful in providing accurate colour for the setting and backdrop to the story.
