Forfar Athletic chairman Alastair Donald has led the tributes after the death of a young Tayside footballer.
Mr Donald described Jack Syme as a popular lad who was always smiling and said his death at the age of 20 is an absolute tragedy.
Jack, who is from Abernethy, was last seen in woodland at Kinnoull Hill near Perth on Sunday night. His body was found at the foot of the hill at about 11am on Monday.
“He was a popular guy who always had a smile on his face,” said Mr Donald. “He was a well-known figure within the club and everybody held him in high regard.
“We are absolutely devastated and our hearts go out to his family. We will do whatever it takes to help them at this difficult time.”
Jack, who played for the under-19 team last season, was in his third year with Forfar but had yet to break in to the first team at Station Park.
The defender, nicknamed Cafu after the legendary Brazilian full-back, started the season on loan at St Andrews United.
Mr Donald said: “A tragedy like this makes you put football into perspective.
“You think that three points on a Saturday is the most important thing It isn’t.”
Tonight’s under-20 development league fixture against Raith Rovers at Station Park has been postponed in the circumstances.
Mr Donald said the coaching staff were in tears at the news and tributes.
Striker Gavin Swankie paid tribute on Twitter, saying: “Absolutely tragic news. Thoughts go out to family and friends. R.I.P.”
