Six reported in Tayside drink-driving blitz

Six drivers were detained in a Tayside drink driving crackdown this week.

Police Scotland revealed two men from Dundee and four from Perthshire have been arrested and charged since Monday.

The Dundee pair, aged 53 and 45, were stopped in a week that also saw a 44-year-old man and a 38-year-old man from South Perthshire pulled over, as well as a 53-year-old man from Perth and a 30-year-old man from North Perthshire.

All six have been have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in relation to drink-driving offences.

Trunk Roads Inspector Ian Martin said: “There does not appear to be any connection between these incidents and I am grateful to the public who called police with concerns about drivers.

“Other drivers have also been stopped by officers on routine patrols and this intervention has minimised the risks to other road users.

“The risk to other road users is greatly increased by drink-drivers and the range of the times of day when they were stopped shows that proactive police activity is required to track down those that continue to flout the law and put others at risk.

“We are committed to dealing with road traffic offences, whether that is drink or drug driving or using a mobile phone whilst driving, for example and we will continue to be active in communities to reassure the public and deal with offenders.”
