North Inch Community Campus became the third ‘hub’ community campus to be handed over to Perth and Kinross Council as part of its £136 million Investment in Learning programme.
Council leader Ian Miller received the keys to the Gowans Terrace campus, which will be the new home for secondary pupils of St John’s RC Academy from April 19, and to primary and nursery pupils from autumn next year.
The campus will also be fully open to the community from April 19, with introductory sessions between 3pm and 10pm from Monday to Friday in the weeks beginning April 5 and 12.
The campus brings together modern facilities for school pupils and the local community.
The wide range of facilities for community use include a fitness suite, sports halls, dance studio, outdoor football pitch, meeting rooms, a recording studio, a conference suite and a hall with cinema-style projection.
The campus also brings a new library to the community. Residents can look forward to 8000 books for adults, 5500 books for children, 650 CDs and DVDs, and free fast broadband internet and Wi-Fi.
From late autumn next year an all-weather pitch and multi-use games area will be added.
“The key aim behind our Investment in Learning programme is to benefit children, young people and local communities with high quality education and community facilities,” said Councillor Miller, adding that the facilities will support teachers in their work and pupils in their learning.
