The doors of the Robert Douglas Memorial Institute in Scone will open later this month as part of 70th anniversary celebrations.
Named after the legendary local man who bequeathed part of his estate to the people of New Scone, the institute was opened on February 21, 1940 by Miss Isabella Douglas.
It was originally the village school but following the opening of a new one it was taken over by the Robert Douglas Foundation Trust and altered to create the current premises.
The events to mark this milestone begin at 10am on August 28 with the official opening by the chairman of the Robert Douglas Foundation Trust. There will also be a karate demonstration and a performance by local Highland dancers.
In the afternoon there will be a brass band, a WRI floral art demonstration and a keep fit session. All day there will be displays by groups who use the institute.
Visitors can put their dancing shoes on from 7pm for a sequence dancing open night. Admission is free and teas will be available throughout the day.
The Douglas name is well known in Scone as the trust has helped to create a new school, lay out the public park, build the Memorial Home and cottages, as well as extend the public hall.
