Tallulah the puppy abandoned in Perth street

The Scottish SPCA has warned whoever dumped a puppy on a Perth street could be banned for life from keeping animals.

The four-month-old terrier crossbreed was abandoned on Tulloch Hill between 6.30 and 7pm on Wednesday.

She had been tied to a lamppost by her collar and lead and her owner had piled up a pair of food bowls, tins of food and dog treats nearby.

After a call from a worried resident, the SSPCA stepped in and took the pup to its animal rescue and rehoming centre at Petterden, near Dundee, where staff have named her Tallulah.

Chief inspector Brian Cowing said, “This is a friendly little dog in good health and body condition so why she has been abandoned is a mystery.

“It may be her owner has grown tired of her or become unable to cope with the demands of owning a puppy, we just don’t know.

“It’s clear from the location and the way she was abandoned that whoever did this expected her to be found quickly, but this does not excuse this sort of behaviour.

“Abandoning an animal is an offence that we take seriously so we urge anyone who recognises Tallulah and knows who owned her to call our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”

Anyone found guilty of abandoning an animal could be banned from keeping animals for life, the charity said.
