A cutting edge combination fire engine has been added to Perth’s firefighting artillery.
The aerial rescue pump was formally handed over to station manager Neil Kerr and the firefighters of White Watch at Perth fire station.
The vehicle has a dual function role that combines the high reach capability of an aerial appliance with that of a firefighting pump with enhanced rescue equipment.
It is the second appliance of its type to be introduced into Tayside Fire and Rescue, joining the one introduced at Blackness Road fire station.
Area manager Kenny Fraser, head of community safety, said a third combined appliance would be available for deployment next year.
“The design specification and fire engineering employed by Tayside from the outset has seen the successful integration of this new technology into the service,” he continued.
“In these challenging times it is only prudent that fire and rescue services continue to seek out new and innovative ways of delivering high-quality services.
“The introduction of our second combined appliance further demonstrates our commitment to providing the highest standards of fire safety and emergency response services to all our communities whilst ensuring value for money.
“This appliance will cover a diverse range of risks within Perthshire and may also be called upon to deal with emergencies elsewhere in Tayside.
“The versatility of our aerial rescue pumps offers us an enhanced emergency response with reduced organisational costs.”
Deputy chief fire officer Alasdair Hay said, “This state of the art fire engine is part of our commitment to improve the efficiency of our service and deliver best value to the communities of Tayside.”
