The owner of a Perth hairdressers who was faced with thousands of pounds worth of damage following the recent flash floods has apologised for her “rant” at Tayside Fire and Rescue.
Willeen Hunter runs the salon in New Row and it was one of many shops hit by the deluge on Saturday, July 16.
Tayside Fire and Rescue was inundated with calls regarding the flooding dealing with an estimated 500 in two hours. Most of Perth was affected by the rain, with Bridgend and Feus Road particularly badly hit.
At the time Ms Hunter said she felt she was let down by the response of the fire service and did not get “adequate” help. She said the shop had a new floor which cost around £4000 and that would have to be ripped up as a result of the flooding.
However, she has now apologised for her earlier comments. She told The Courier, “I would like to say sorry for my rant at Perth emergency services. After reading your newspaper I could see how busy they were dealing with the floods at Bridgend and across Perth.
“I am maybe a few thousand pounds out of pocket but some people have lost their businesses. It is heartbreaking to see your livelihood disappearing under smelly black water.
“The drains in New Row have now been cleaned so I hope they will cope with more rain but they should be cleaned on a regular basis.”
Tayside Fire and Rescue manager David Stapley had said that he sympathised with Ms Hunter but stressed that his crews had to prioritise their efforts. “It’s very unfortunate what happened to this salon but with this type of flooding it’s very difficult as we can’t stop the water coming in.”
