Perthshire butcher Simon Howie’s shop in Auchterarder has won the Fresh Produce Retailer of the Year category at the Scottish Independent Retail Awards.
The awards aim to highlight the value of independent retailers to the communities and country they operate within.
Simon Howie Butchers, which has shops in Auchterarder and Perth, was presented with its prize at a ceremony in Glasgow.
Congratulating the firm on its award, Jim McLaren, chairman of Quality Meat Scotland, said: ”This award is well deserved and provides further welcome evidence that, through the provision of excellent quality service and produce, independent butchers can compete with multiple retailers by providing a top-class, personal offering.
”With retailers like Simon Howie Butchers leading the way, the outlook for the Scottish red meat sector is encouraging, despite the challenging economic environment within which all retailers presently operate.”
