A man is due to appear at Perth Sheriff Court following the death of a woman in a quiet Kinross-shire village.
The 22-year-old man was arrested on Friday evening after an incident police have confirmed is being treated as murder.
The woman named by police on Monday as Jane Kelly (22), of St Andrews died following the incident in a luxury house in Powmill, about six miles from Kinross.
Police said at the weekend they had responded to a call to the house, on the unnamed road behind Gartwhinzean Loan, and discovered Ms Kelly with fatal injuries.
A spokesman said: ”Efforts to revive her by emergency services staff at the scene were in vain. Police officers detained a 22-year-old man at the address and inquiries into the full set of circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
”The 22-year-old male has now been arrested and will appear at Perth Sheriff Court.”
In a short statement issued through police, Ms Kelly’s family have paid tribute to their “beautiful daughter”.
They said: “We have lost a very special, beautiful daughter. Life has been taken away from her at such a young age and with such a bright future in front of her.
“She will be so sadly missed by her mum, dad, her brother, sisters and all who were blessed to know her. We ask that the family’s privacy is respected at this time.”
A meticulous examination of the scene was carried out throughout Friday night and Saturday and a police vehicle remained stationed outside the house on Sunday.
An appeal was issued for anyone with information about the incident to contact them on 0300 111 2222.
Residents were in shock that their tiny village became the focus of a major police investigation.
A neighbour said: ”We’re just waiting to find out what happened. We arrived home on Friday night and the street was cordoned off and there were loads of police everywhere.
”It’s probably the first thing of note to happen in Powmill in centuries it’s just like Sleepy Hollow round here and that’s why people move here.
”Everyone knows each other and it’s an absolute tragedy that that’s the result of whatever has happened.”
Another said: ”I moved here from a city where these things were common but it’s the last thing you expect to happen on your doorstep.
”It’s desperately sad that a 22-year-old has been killed that’s no age at all.”
