Crieff community group in need of some light relief
ByNews reporter
Crieff is facing a festive blackout unless a desperate appeal for help to repair the town’s damaged Christmas lights is successful.
Last winter’s weather had a catastrophic effect upon the lighting and displays held in storage much to the dismay of the Crieff Community Initiative (CCI).
Each year, the CCI organises regular fundraising events including an annual gala day to ensure the big switch-on in James Square is a hit with locals and visitors alike.
The discovery that the lights have been damaged by bad weather has therefore been a significant blow.
While some can be repaired, others need to be replaced entirely and it’s feared the additional cost of putting on the kind of display the town has become renowned for could rise to as much as £10,000.
In a letter sent out by the CCI, chairman Angus MacDonald has made a plea to local businesses and organisations for assistance.
Anyone who would like to support the Christmas lights appeal can do by contacting Mr MacDonald at Arduthie House, Perth Road, Crieff, PH7 3EQ.
Cheques should be made payable to Crieff Community Initiative.
