Councillors have approved a plan to demolish Perth City Hall.
A report put before members of Perth and Kinross Council’s development control committee (link) had recommended demolition of the century-old hall to allow the creation of an open civic space.
The plan has split local opinion, with some local groups objecting to the destruction of the Category-B listed landmark.
Alternative plans had been drawn up by suporters of the city hall, including one that would have included partial demolition but retention of the building’s frontage.
The demolition plan will now go to Scottish Government ministers for final approval. For full coverage of this story, including local reaction, see Thursday’s Courier.
