Pregnant woman’s car destroyed by fire in accident on A9 near Dalguise

A pregnant woman has had a lucky escape after her car caught fire and was destroyed in an accident on the A9 in Perthshire this morning.
The woman’s black Mercedes C180 caught fire after it was involved in a collision with a white Vauxhall Combo van on the southbound A9 Inverness to Perth road, a mile north of Dalguise, at about 8am.
The 27-year-old man who was driving the van was taken to Ninewells Hospital with pelvic and chest injuries. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
The pregnant woman’s Mercedes caught alight and had to be extinguished by Tayside Fire and Rescue. It was almost completely destroyed. The woman had escaped and was not injured but she was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary as a precaution.
A red Vauxhall Astra was also involved in the collision but its driver was uninjured.
Diversions were put in place while emergency services worked at the scene.
