An elderly woman has been found dead at home in Perthshire in an incident police are treating as suspicious.

Police are carrying out inquiries following the death of 80-year-old Janet Methven.

Her body was discovered at her home in the Forteviot area by a family member at about 5.15pm on Monday and a major investigation is now under way.

Officers are undertaking door-to-door inquiries in the surrounding area.

Detective Chief Inspector Colin Gall said: “The circumstances are being treated as suspicious at this time and we would ask the public to support our ongoing inquiries by getting in touch with us if they have any information whatsoever that could assist us.

“We would appeal to anyone who has been in the Forteviot area in recent days, particularly drivers who regularly use the route through there, to contact as they may have information that could prove valuable to us.

“I would also ask local residents to think hard as to whether they have seen anything suspicious at all in the area in recent days, whether a person or a vehicle. Again, it could prove to be of great assistance to our investigation.”

Anyone who can assist police should call 0300 111 2222, or speak to their local officer. Alternatively information can be passed anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.For the latest, see Wednesday’s Courier
