Landowner says legal moves under way to remove Travellers from Scone site

A ladnowner has taken legal action to remove a group of Travellers who have set up temporary home on his land in Scone.
The Travellers have been on the site, which lies just off Stormont Road, for several weeks. Perth and Kinross Council has stated it can’t move the Travellers on as they are on private land.
The landowner, SMS Perth Ltd, moved to clarify its position on the matter and emphasised that it has not encouraged the Travellers to move to the site, as had been wrongly suggested by some nearby residents.
SMS Perth, which has submitted plans to the council for a development of 13 homes with parking and roads on part of the land, believes a minority of people have objected to the Travellers being there.
A spokesman said: ”We have been in constant communication with around nine residents who live close to the site, and have kept them up to date on what has been going on.
”We were advised to open dialogue with the Travellers and ask them to leave before commencing legal action. However, they haven’t left so we are now pursuing the legal route to evict them.”
