Elderly man held after woman dies in Perth road accident

An elderly man is being questioned by police after a woman died in a collision with a car in Perth this morning.
The woman, who is understood to be in her 30s, was walking in Jeanfield Road, near to its junction with Cornhill Road and Burghmuir Road, at around 10.15am when a red Toyota Corolla was seen to mount the pavement and collide with her.
The woman sustained serious head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. Tragically, it was later confirmed that she had died.
She has not yet been formally identified.
A police spokesman said: “A car matching the description of the vehicle involved was traced elsewhere in Perth and an 81-year-old man is currently assisting police with enquiries.
“The road has been closed and diversion put in place to allow crash investigators to carry out enquiries at the scene.”
