A van driver had to be cut free from his van after it collided with an agricultural vehicle and rolled down an embankment on the Perth to Dundee dual carriageway on Tuesday.
The man was treated for serious leg injuries at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee following the crash on the A90 near Tofthills Farm, Glencarse.
The emergency services, including the Tayside Trauma Team, raced to the scene after a motorist called 999 at 3.15pm.
The eastbound carriageway was closed to all traffic for more than three hours as fire crews from Perth and Dundee battled to free the stricken casualty from the wreckage of the silver Transit van.
His male passenger was also taken to hospital by ambulance with head and pelvic injuries.
Neither man is thought to be in a life-threatening condition.
Tayside Fire and Rescue’s heavy rescue unit managed to move the badly damaged vehicle from its side to an upright position to allow hydraulic cutting equipment to be used.
The 53-year-old driver of the agricultural vehicle, a Claas-make material handler, was treated at the roadside for shock.
The incident caused major rush-hour tailbacks back towards Perth.
Road blocks were put in place at the Friarton Bridge and Kinfauns, with diversions through Fife.
The westbound carriageway remained open throughout.
A spokesman for Tayside Police confirmed crash investigators were in attendance and that inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident would be carried out.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the force on 0300 111 2222.
