A pair of men were airlifted to hospital after being struck by a train in remote Highland Perthshire on Tuesday evening.
The men, aged 52 and 87, were on the track two miles north of Rannoch Station when the collision happened at 6.40pm.
A spokesman for the British Transport Police said the extent of the men’s injuries was not yet fully known but it is thought each had suffered damage to their legs.
The driver of the 4.05 Mallaig to Glasgow Queen Street train spotted the men and hit the brakes and called the emergency services.
One man was taken to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow and the other to the Belford Hospital in Fort William.
ScotRail said the line was closed to deal with the situation, but has since reopened.
A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: ”Officers attended with colleagues from Tayside Police and the air ambulance and discovered two men had both been struck and injured by the train.
”Both were airlifted to hospital where they were treated for injuries, the extent of which are not known at present.
”Officers are now working to determine exactly how the men came to be on the track but the incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
