A seven-year-old boy was fighting for his life after being involved in a collision with a car in Perth.
He was crossing the road at the junction of Garth Avenue and Strathtay Road at around 3.30pm on Monday when the accident happened. He was thrown into the road as witnesses looked on in horror.
At the time the streets were busy with parents and pupils heading home at the end of the school day.
An ambulance crew attended within minutes and the youngster was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. Last night he was said to be in a ”critical” condition.
Surrounding streets were cordoned-off after the accident and there was a significant police presence, including an incident support unit.
Crash investigators were seen taking photographs of the silver Subaru car involved, which was sitting by the side of Strathtay Road near Our Ladies RC Primary School.
Local folk spoke of their shock at the accident.
One said: ”I was in my house when I heard what sounded like a bump. It was followed by shouts and screams from the street.
”I could see lots of parents and pupils milling round the junction because the schools had just come out. You could see the car and that a youngster had been knocked down.”
Another resident said: ”When the ambulance crew arrived they helped to make the young lad comfortable before taking him away. I hope that he will be OK.”
Tayside Police Inspector Julie Robertson said the road had been closed to allow a full inquiry to be carried out, including collision investigation and scene examination.
Anyone who was in the Strathtay Road area at the time and who may have seen the accident or events leading up to it is asked to call Tayside Police on 0300 1112222.
