The devastated wife of a Blairgowrie man left fighting for his life after being stabbed has pleaded for anyone with information to come forward.

Police are treating the weekend attack on 26-year-old Colin Bissett as attempted murder.

His wife Susan (28) has told of her desperation to see the thugs responsible brought to justice.

Mr Bissett suffered a punctured lung after a group of men allegedly brandishing knives and broken bottles set about him in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He had been enjoying a night out with one of his closest friends, understood to be the best man at his wedding last year, when the attack was launched.

A spokeswoman from NHS Tayside said he was making a “good recovery” at hospital, and Mrs Bissett confirmed he could be coming home “within a couple of days.”

“He is doing well and is now in a stable condition at Ninewells,” she said from their home in Blairgowrie.

“I just want him to come home, and hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later.”

Despite the ferocity of the attack, Susan added doctors were extremely pleased with Colin’s progress.

“We have been told he is going to make a full recovery,” she continued.

“I don’t really want to say anything about the incident itselfI don’t want to hinder the police investigation at all.”

Her voice breaking with emotion, she pleaded for witnesses to contact detectives.

“Obviously I would just appeal for anyone with any information to get in touch with police,” she said.

Mr Bissett had been enjoying a night out at The Gig nightclub in Blairgowrie prior to the assault.Frenzied attackWitnesses described the frenzied attack as “like something from a Holywood gangster film,” saying a group of men brandishing knives and improvised weapons fashioned from broken bottles were involved.

Mr Bissett suffered stab wounds to his chest along with bruising to his head and face.

Detective Inspector Mike Pirie echoed Mrs Bissett’s appeal for witnesses to come forward.

“There were a lot of people in the area at the time of the assault and we want to hear from every one of them,” he said.

“Tayside Police is treating this crime as an attempted murder.

“This was a vicious attack…the outcome could easily have been even more serious,” he said.

Another 26-year-old man suffered what was described as “a deep cut” to his face following the brawl.

Anyone with information is urged to call the police on 0300 1112222 or to speak to any officer.
