Scotland’s public water body has been accused of poisoning 5,000 fish in a pollution incident.
Scottish Water is alleged to have discharged the chemical aluminium sulphate into the river Farg on two dates last May.
The river is a tributary to both the river Earn and one of Scotland’s “Big Four” salmon fishing rivers, the Tay.
The pollution is said to have killed around 4,900 fish, as well as a number of other animals.
The pollution is said to have interfered with or impaired the legitimate use of the river without proper authority.
Papers at Perth Sheriff Court allege that the company, whose address was given as Castle Drive, Dunfermline, carried out a controlled activity at the Glenfarg water treatment works at East Blair Farm on May 13 and 14 2014.
The case was continued without plea until February 17.
