ByNews reporter
A teenage canoeist who was rescued from the River Tay at the weekend has returned to her home south of the border.
The 14-year-old girl, who is from the Hertfordshire area, was treated for mild hypothermia at Ninewells Hospital after her vessel capsized on Sunday afternoon.
Following a multi-agency emergency response involving Tayside Police, Tayside Fire and Rescue and the Scottish Ambulance Service, a Royal Navy helicopter was called in to winch the girl from the notorious Campsie Linn rapids near Stanley.
The frightened youngster, who managed to make it to a small island on the river, was described as being in a ”state of shock”.
It is believed she had been holidaying in the Perthshire area with a group of family and friends.
A middle-aged man, who had been sitting in the canoe with the teenager, made it safely to the water’s edge.
