A Perthshire lights show has attracted record-breaking crowds and delivered a major boost to businesses.
More than 46,500 visitors took a stroll through the multi-award-winning Enchanted Forest at Pitlochry during its 24-night run, which ended on Sunday.
The visitor numbers are 16% up on last year’s figures, breaking all previous box office records.
It is believed the event’s impact on the tourism economy is now in the region of £2 million each year, with almost half of all visitors choosing to stay overnight in the area.
Around 90% said the Enchanted Forest was their main reason to visit the area this autumn.
Graham Brown, chairman of the Highland Perthshire Community Interest Company which runs the event, said: “This is a tremendous success for Highland Perthshire tourism businesses and we are encouraged by the continued support of our visitors, many of them loyal visitors who return to the forest year after year.
“It is testimony to the hard work put in by the community that our visitor numbers continue to grow year on year and that our show goes from strength to strength.”
This year, organisers held an additional evening specifically to benefit two national charities. The £5,000 total raised on the night will be shared between the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) and Autism Scotland.
