A senior Scottish business leader who played a central role in securing the Ryder Cup for Scotland is to retire.
Peter Lederer will leave his role as chairman of Gleneagles Hotel at the end of this year, when he will also step down from the board of Diageo.
The Courier Business Awards judge was appointed general manager of Gleneagles in 1984 and became managing director three years later. He oversaw the hotel’s development as a five-star resort and was instrumental in moves to bring the Ryder Cup to Scotland a journey that was finally complete in September.
“I have had a wonderful 30 years as part of Gleneagles Hotel and Diageo,” he said. “It has been a privilege to be part of such great industry, both hospitality and Scotch whisky, which are at the forefront of promoting Scotland on the world stage.”
The move comes days after Gleneagles’ long-standing managing director Patrick Elsmie also announced plans to retire at the end of this year.
