A cross was placed on the memorial wall at Perth’s Balhousie Castle today for every man of the Black Watch killed on November 11 1914.
Local scouts helped by writing the names of the soldiers on the crosses, which were hung on the wall by Perth Grammar School pupils.
The men killed during early November 1914 died as part of what is now known as the First Battle of Ypres.
The Black Watch First World War Memorial Wall project focuses on the heritage of The Black Watch in World War I and the ramifications of that war on the regiment.
Throughout this year’s centenary, a cross will be hung on the wall for each soldier killed on that day.
Veterans also gathered at the city’s North Inch this morning, where Provost Liz Grant joined Lord Lieutenant Melville Jameson in laying wreaths beside the 51st Highland Memorial.
They were joined by representatives of the 7 SCOTS battalion, veterans associations and other military groups.
